Hi, everyone, I am Rebecca from Nicole’s April-May class. Thank you again, Nicole. I got the offer by email today, wow, 3 months probation.  I feel it is not a complete relief yet, and I still have work to do. Btw I really need to attend your excel course to attend ASAP..... The CEO asked me an excel question which was the only one question I cannot answer in the interview.  Now I will tell everyone a bit about my interview. Hope it would be helpful for those ones still battle their way through.

1. Phone interview by HR manager. He told me he shortlisted 12 people, and made the initial screening, then chose 7 people for first round face-to-face interview. It lasted 10 mins.

2. Face-to-face interview lasted about 30mins. PLEASE DO SOME RESEARCH ABOUT COMPANY before the interview.  Also never make assumption that HR doesn't know anything about accounting (at least he knows expenses and payroll). Remember he has the job description of the position advertised, so don't fool him around. 70% questions about accounting + 30% behaviour questions. Eventually three candidates were selected for final interviews.

3. Face-to-face interview by Financial Manager and CEO. 1.5 HOURS! Nicole later told me it is a very long one from her experience. I reckon the same, indeed.  The CEO took 2 pages of notes. 90%questions about accounting+5%about excel+5% behaviour questions. Near the end of interview, he asked for my university transcription as well. Holy Shit, I failed 1 paper before. Fine, don’t worry about the marks now. Think positively, presenting your experience is much more important.   I was so exhausted after the interview, merely because I just kept talking too much.

For those who do not have the local accounting experience, following the procedures taught by Nicole will be of great help. The demonstration that you understand the actual procedures in the real workplace will help interviewers to reach the conclusion that your resume is genuine.

Ok, back to Nicole’s class.

I came from New Zealand and used to be an overseas student there. I had some working experience there and I wanted to learn OZ tax, that's how I met Nicole. As I expected in the first place, I did not get too many responses from recruitment agency as I don't have local experience. I did attend an interview with a small recruiter, however, I was not selected for client interview on the same basis that I don't have any local experience.  I was upset, but what else I could do? It is a tough market and I do understand their decisions. After meeting Nicole, the first thing I learnt from her was never giving up and being strong. For me I guess this inspiration is even more important than the class itself.

From the lessons, I can see Nicole is very practical in the software itself. Please always remember that you should not only know to use MYOB as an application, but also as a platform to understand how things work behind the scene, like what Nicole always emphasised in the class. No matter which software you are using at work, the way how they work is similar.

I think Nicole provided a very clear explanation on how different transactions affect the financial statements in MYOB and I had a very thorough understanding on her topics. She also showed us how to apply the knowledge in the real life case studies and it helped to solve many of my mysteries. And about tax and payroll parts, now at very least I am say comfortable to do the BAS reports for the Australia Company in the interview even though I do not have any experience here.

Nicole has a good approach to explain each part in detail before showing us the wholes picture. It is like explaining how each component of a ship works at first, then showing how they can be put together to make the ship sailing. I believe every time you attend, you will always find something new.

Thanks Nicole, the tutors and my classmates. I made friends here.
