Nicole带给我面试的信心

Hi, I am Connie. I participated in Nicole's course in February. I recently got a job as Accounts Clerk in a construction company. Before I got this job I felt very anxious about the job situation here. It is good news that so many Nicole's students got accounting jobs, and finally I have one too! I would like to share my “seeking” experience.

Everyday I sent a lot of applications and spent a lot of time browsing Seek.com and Mycareer.com. The job ad of my current company had many requirements, including AP, AR, payroll, BAS, MYOB experience and so on. During the interview, I was asked questions relating to my previous work. Many questions were similar to the interview questions we went through in Nicole's class, so I had good preparation. It seemed that my company needed someone with extensive experience in MYOB and they thought that my background matched their criteria.

During the probation period, processing invoices is my main job. Construction accounting has some significant differences, compared to other industries because of the involvement of labour and materials. On the first day, my manager asked me to customise the MYOB invoice format and update the supplier accounts. For AR, we do not have too much work because all the customers follow their payment terms. For AP, certain suppliers always call in to chase up payments. Sometimes I also have to call them to chase invoices (e.g. I often need to chase up equipment hire invoices otherwise I cannot finish invoicing our customers).

My company just starts to use MYOB this year and the only accountant based in Brisbane is trying her best to make MYOB running. I found she put the AMEX account in Asset account, is it correct? We have a lot of casual staffs, making time sheet collection a weekly duty as well. MYOB has not been fully set up, such as the time sheet and inventory. Once the manager asked me how to track each customer's jobs cost, including labour and materials. I can only find the way to track single job cost but cannot group them to each customer. I think this may go beyond MYOB’s capability and this is a problem we need to solve.

Paying attention to detail is very important because it is easy to double up data entry in as high volume environment. Excel skill is very important too, we use excel to maintain time sheet and estimated cost. So the Excel class is very useful. Thanks Nicole!

Now, people in the office call me MYOB star and Excel star. Thanks Nicole! You are always nice and helpful. Your MYOB course is very practical.

I hope I can handle all the accounting responsibilities eventually and share more experiences here.
